Why don't we use hydrogen?

Hydrogen is a fuel that is readily available and renewable in nature.

When burnt hydrogen fuel only leaves water as a residue and also ensures zero emissions. Thereby causing no harm to the environment. It also produces more power compared to other fuels using the same amount.

Having these impressive advantages- we get to the question Why don't we use hydrogen?

  • Extracting hydrogen is a complicated process using electrolysis and water, which makes it difficult to extract.
  • It also needs tons of investments and political backing in order to become a viable fuel. It also doesn't have necessary infrastructure.
  • Coming to raw materials used in the extraction of hydrogen, they are very expensive including the metals used in electrolysis.
  • It also faces limitations due to regulations imposed by many countries and the storage of hydrogen is rather expensive and complicated than the other fuels. Thereby adding more cost to the already expensive price.
  • Adding to the cost of price is the cost of life as hydrogen is a highly flammable fuel in nature.
  • Atlast, the product of this is a vehicle twice as costly as other fuel powered vehicles and the customer is unwilling to buy it.
